Zombie Surface Pro 3

Recently I’ve got a Surface Pro 3. The screen had a very broken touch layer (it still displayed proper image). Phantom touches were present ever in the bios. Also, probably due to cracked screen it almost always won’t boot from internal ssd or usb drive. So not quite dead, but also not quite alive.

Got a replacement charging adapter to charge Surface 3 Pro from usb-c cable and normal power delivery charger:

To force it to boot, you need to enter bios by holding volume up+press power shortly. Plug an usb keyboard. Leave bios without saving. Repeat if it won’t boot. To boot linux you most likely have to disable secure boot. It will unfortunately result in nasty red boot screen.

Get rid of phantom touches – disable touch screen in Windows 10/11 by downloading and running this file.
